Job Description:
Join Metroparks Toledo in Park Maintenance . In this role, you
keep our parks running smoothly. You’re the onsite expert of all
skilled maintenance within the park. When needed, you’ll also pitch
in and help the rest of the park staff ensure we maintain our
“Clean, Safe, and Natural” promise. Day in the Life? No two days
are the same – but you can expect to be the “go to” person for all
maintenance issues – broken lawn mowers, fire pit issues, vehicle
troubleshooting, fixing a safety issue, carpentry repairs, or

Summary Advance Metroparks Toledo’s core conservation mission by
performing a broad spectrum of maintenance duties – including
maintaining building equipment, grounds maintenance, landscaping,
and construction. Duties and Responsibilities Lead staff in the
performance of general grounds maintenance activities including
grass mowing, snow removal, road repair, erosion control, storm
clean up, etc. Perform a variety of skilled building maintenance
activities; plumbing, painting, dry wall, roofing and minor
electrical work. Implement procedures, techniques and best
practices (TPM/6S) in the maintenance of facilities/equipment in
park operations. Perform a variety of skilled construction and
carpentry projects. Perform a variety of skilled trades; automotive
and machine repair, plumbing, electrical, etc. Operate light and
heavy equipment; assure compliance with all related safety
regulations. Understand and comply with PERRP, OSHA, and ODA
requirements. Complete all required reports and maintenance logs.
Actively seek opportunities for innovation and improvement within
job role. Effectively lead staff and volunteers assigned to
projects. Effectively communicate directions and adjust assignments
as needed. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment; perform
troubleshooting to diagnose mechanical issues, make repairs, and
maintain records. Maintain personal time record for submission to
supervisor. Create material lists, budget estimates, and timelines
needed to complete assigned projects Serve as a member of the Park
Operations team, providing assistance as needed. When needed,
assist staff with the efficient completion of janitorial duties:
cleaning facilities, removal of litter, and trash collection.
Direct the work of full-time, part time, seasonal and volunteer
staff. Other Park District work related duties as assigned.
Equipment Used General office equipment Software & Apps: Microsoft
Office Suite, Paylocity, CityWorks Maintenance Equipment: manual
and power driven equipment, such as lawn mowers, chain saws, power
hand tools, snow removal equipment, chemical dispensing systems.
Vehicles: Park vehicles, on & off road trucks, UTVs, light and
medium-duty tractors, truck/trailer combinations, dump trucks,
backhoe, skid steer, as assigned Physical Requirements and Working
Conditions Schedule: 40 hour work-week that may require work in the
evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Home Work Location: Secor
Metropark May require business use of personal vehicle to travel
between Metroparks locations. Limited ( Requires regular lifting
and carrying of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying
of up to 60 pounds; ability to walk and work outdoors for extended
periods of time in all types of weather including extreme heat and
cold. Requirements Alternates to the position requirements may be
made as Metroparks finds appropriate and acceptable. Must be 18
years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with an
acceptable driving record. Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: Moderate level of specialty maintenance. How many
years? Certifications: Must obtain the following certifications and
fulfill requalification and recertification requirements: OSHA 10
Hour – within 6 months of employment First Aid/CPR – within 1 year
of employment CDL Class A – within 1 year of employment Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities Demonstrated appreciation for enhancing
quality of life and conserving the region’s natural resources
through clean, safe and natural parks and open spaces. Knowledge
Demonstrated proficiency in maintenance specialty areas: carpentry,
plumbing, painting, masonry. Ability to operate, maintain and
troubleshoot equipment including power tools and heavy equipment.
Understanding of maintenance-related safety regulations. Skills
Broad, in-depth maintenance and mechanical skills; demonstrated
ability to maintain and repair equipment. Basic math skills Problem
Solving and analytical skills Interpersonal skills: demonstrated
ability to work with all types of people including volunteers,
staff, and the public. Basic customer service skills. Abilities
Ability to work independently without supervision. Ability to read
and understand directions, work orders and MSDS sheets. Metroparks
