The Investment Casting Engineer leads the implementation and
operation of the investment casting product line. This individual
serves as the subject matter expert for investment casting at
Materion. A strong technical casting background is required.
Candidates should be knowledgeable on casting processes and have
experience with determining the causes for casting defects. The
holder is expected to both identify the causes for defects in our
Al-Be investment castings and then implement the appropriate
process changes for their elimination.
This individual manages the investment casting product line,
balancing the requirements from - Customers, Vendors, Sales,
Machine Shop, Quality, and Operations. The investment casting
engineer will likely need to interface with customers, potential
business partners, and US Government organizations. In addition to
the technical developmental responsibilities, the holder will also
be responsible for safety, production, quality, and spending
control of projects as assigned.
You will have the opportunity to:
Comply with and support all EH&S activities while operating in
a safe, honest, and ethical manner.
Design and optimize gating for investment casting products.
Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP), routings,
work instructions, and bills of material for investment casting
products.
Achieve and maintain necessary quality levels for investment
casting portfolio; including radiographic, geometric, and material
property requirements; implementing corrective actions where
necessary.
Evaluates performance of manufacturing operations and expedites
actions as required to obtain maximum production efficiency.
Maintain product schedule and relationships with key vendors.
Independently drive and lead multiple programs with various
customers.
Perform detailed cost analysis for new products and cost reduction
opportunities.
Evaluates operations direct variable cost (DVC) and manufacturing
yield performance. Recommends and implements cost reduction
activities.
Operate independently of direct management while keeping management
informed of progress and any important issues.
Support new products with customer visits as required.
Assist with other duties as assigned by Engineering Supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Experience/Capabilities
Undergraduate degree in engineering (e.g. Materials Science,
Mechanical---)
3+ years of professional technical experience with investment
casting
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead technical projects and
teams
Excellent written and presentation skills
Ideal Experience/Capabilities
Undergraduate degree with materials focus (e.g. Materials Science,
Metallurgy, Ceramics---)
Interpersonal skills
Experience supplying castings to the aerospace industry under
AS9100 or equivalent.
Experience leveraging Lean Six Sigma methodology and tools.
Experience managing vacuum casting equipment, furnaces, and
finishing equipment.
Experience in tooling design and manufacturing.
Experience in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience in investment casting gating design, solidification, and
defect analysis.
Proven product and/or process development skills.

contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility
for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the
licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State,
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S.
