Job Description:

Under the direction of the administrator, the Director, Transition Programs and Itinerant Services is responsible for planning and implementing activities and requirements for special education transition services and programs with the Intermediate School District and its constituent districts. In addition, the Director is responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and improving designated special education support services and instructional programs for students with disabilities. The Director functions in a collaborative consultation model with local districts, public school academies, ISD programs and community agencies. The Director functions in a collaborative consultation model with local districts, public school academies, ISD programs and community agencies. Job Requirements:

  • ------------------ Provides leadership to ensure that Ingham ISD as well as the LEA---s develop systems to build comprehensive transition assessment, planning, programs and services utilizing research-based practices-- ------------------ Seeks, develops and maintains opportunities for expanding funding (grant writing, collaboration with agencies) for increased transition services across the county. ------------------ Facilitates recruitment, hiring, assignment, scheduling, mentoring, and appraisal of all assigned staff.------------------ Develops relationships with community partners to enhance transition education and opportunities, and to create a network for dispersal of community information on a variety of topics, such as recreational opportunities, housing options, employment, transition services and legal issues. ------------------ Works to provide customized opportunities for transition for all students regardless of their disability, age, ethnicity or geographic location.-- ------------------ Proactively seeks information regarding trends in transition services at the state and national levels. ------------------ Responsible for the development of program budgets and maintenance of service documentation systems for tuition bill backs and continuous improvement of service delivery.-- Maintains staff records and gathers information regarding students and services to facilitate improvement in the delivery of services. ------------------ Works cooperatively with the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education to ensure compliance of local school districts and public school academies within Ingham ISD with Federal and state regulations related to transition for students with disabilities. ------------------ Develops and implements standard operational procedures on a continuous improvement basis to increase operating quality and efficiency and conduct staff training on implementation of procedures. ------------------ Provides technical assistance and guidance to parents, local school personnel, Ingham ISD personnel and external agencies in interpretation and implementation of transition and special education mandates and requirements. ------------------ Provides consistent support to professional staff in areas such as curriculum, compliance, monitoring, problem solving, and professional relations with parents, local districts, and ISD and community staff/administrators. ------------------ Maintains current knowledge in the fields of special education, general education, transition and particularly in the service areas assigned. ------------------ Designs and conducts professional learning and develops technical assistance tools within identified focus areas. ------------------ Works collaboratively within assigned teams from Student Instructional and/or Support Services at the ISD to identify, design, manage, evaluate and assess products and services. ------------------ Monitors and facilitates data collection and analysis of special/ education transition programs and support services to enhance service delivery models and the program continuum. ------------------ Performs related duties as assigned.--
