Job Description:

The Business Performance Manager has a key role in the Business Development department, managing the implementation of the department's strategic planning process across all internal units and external units as requested. The primary piece of this role is to serve as a facilitator, scheduler, and coordinator for all the Planning and Performance Model (PPM) work in Business Development. This includes serving as the primary facilitator and strategic planning process manager for all Business Development departments (Bookstore, eCommerce, Print and Mail, ITS, Contact Center, and Hospitality), assuming an advisory role for the departments we partner with (IA Programs, Alumni, K-12, and Marketing), and managing the onboarding of any new partner departments. In addition to managing the planning processes for the business units, this role will assist business unit leaders in managing other cyclical "auxiliary" services in the Business Development area, such as research (both internal and coordinating with vendors such as Hanover), survey work, and report writing.
Education and ExperienceA Bachelor's degree in business, management, finance, accounting, or project management, or equivalent experience is required, while an MBA or advanced degree is preferred. Three to seven years of team facilitation, strategic planning, and/or management is strongly desired. Experience with Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) concepts and practices strongly desired as well. Other Skills

    • Planning and Facilitation - The individual in this role must be confident and comfortable facilitating planning meetings in a variety of settings. These meetings will range from weekly team meetings with staff members to annual planning retreats with senior leaders. Accordingly, this position must highly organized and comfortable planning multiple meetings at once. Help Business Development teams to manage daily work by assisting with project scheduling and monitoring targets in the context of strategic planning and performance monitoring. Recommend strategies for achieving goals and point out risks to be addressed. Help develop support documentation including planning documents, assessments, executive summaries, and presentations. Help identify tasks, the flow of information, and cascading messaging for projects.
    • Business Unit Support - This position will have a key role in supporting the VP of Business Development and the Director of Staff and Operations for Business Development by providing support to business-unit level initiatives. This may include managing small projects, assisting with research, participating in examining strategic issues facing the business units, and providing recommendation on emerging opportunities. As a strategic liaison with individual units, work with key stakeholders to scope and prioritize initiatives that contribute to Hillsdale's key operational objectives. As this position will be embedded in all units' meetings, this position will play a critical role in providing cross-unit information in relevant situations.
    • Written Communication-A critical element of the job is the ability to communicate in written form. The position may frequently write reports, summaries, and briefs on behalf of the team and the Vice President of Business Development.
    • Represent the VP and the interests of the department in meetings or other professional interactions. Contributes to productivity at all levels. Ensures on-time preparation and delivery of work, optimizes schedules, and keeps things on track. Makes department as efficient as possible. Is responsive, adaptive, and flexible in changing circumstances.
    • Work closely with cross functional teams and other departments on special projects, as needed. Perform additional duties that may be assigned.
