Job Description:

The Michigan Association of United Ways (MAUW) seeks a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide leadership for a network of over 40 independent, local United Ways. The CEO plays a critical role in directing, aligning, and evaluating efforts to support United Ways. The successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in building strong relationships with stakeholders and creating strategic and collaborative partnerships. The next MAUW CEO will have the opportunity to work with others to build on the successes of the past while co-creating new avenues for growth and community impact. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial, innovative spirit while also understanding what it means to be a participant leader.
DUTIES:The CEO is responsible for vision setting, strategic planning and execution, financial growth and diversification, board and staff development and engagement, and relationship building with a diverse network of members and community partners. Key responsibilities include:---Work with the MAUW Board, staff, and community leaders to establish a compelling vision and multi-year strategic plan. Provide visionary and strategic leadership that advances MAUW and its members. Serve as an influential champion and advocate for issues of importance to the United Way.---Initiate plans and challenge practices to keep local United Ways vital as effective organizations to serve and build local communities.---Establish and maintain relationships with members of the association to seek out best practices. Establish and maintain a plan to meet the expressed needs of members including seeking the necessary resources to operate the plan.---Cultivate and maintain public/private funder relationships and multiple revenue streams.---Work with the Board of Directors to establish a public policy and advocacy agenda to advance MAUW priorities. Work cooperatively with the State Labor Director on mutually beneficial public policy initiatives, continuing to focus on the partnership model that has successfully been established.---Work collaboratively with the State Labor Director to ensure positive outcomes from community outreach programs, volunteer opportunities, and community service trainings.---Work with the board and officers to ensure an effective governing body; keep board members actively involved; and cultivate and recruit new members who will represent the diversity of the communities in Michigan.---Hire, retain, manage, and support a staff qualified and motivated to direct the organization's attainment of its mission and purpose.---Work with the board and staff to establish budget, manage funds, track progress, and maintain sound financial practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or commensurate learning experience along with ten plus (10+) years of demonstrated success in management, including at least five (5) years in a senior management capacity, ideally in a non-profit or membership organization. Involvement with local United Way organizations is desirable.This position requires someone with a full range of leadership qualities to support staff and members through organizational change efforts:---Very knowledgeable in nonprofit administration and an unwavering ability to remain in compliance with government and philanthropic regulations---Ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse staff, board, and members---Ability to work in a team-based environment---Ability to organize and coordinate many complex tasks and projects at once---Ability to develop, and require use of, staff systems to assess and drive progress on key projects and initiatives---Skilled at presenting and interacting with key individuals and groups---Heightened ability to discern and execute independent judgement as needed---Ability to provide effective and high-level supervision and development to staff---Strong written and verbal communication skills---High degree of confidentiality, decision-making, and creative skills---Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer applications at an intermediate or above level
