Basic Function
The Advanced Polymer Solutions (APS) USCAN Automotive New Business
Development (NBD) Team Manager leads a team of Business Development
Managers (BDMs) who are responsible for maintaining/generating
business at all key Automotive OEMs. This role is based in the SE
Michigan general area.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Leads the Automotive BDMs who report directly to this position.
The BDMs primary goals are the following for their assigned OEM(s):
- Position APS material solutions directly at the Automotive OEMs
positioning LYB as the preferred supplier partner for future
business
- Conduit for new material performance requirements from OEMs
setting product development targets for PAD Engineers (Product
Development Team) for next generation products supporting industry
mega trends
- Identify and develop opportunities for market expansion (new
applications)
- Drive new LYB material specification and color approvals; goal
is 1st on specification
- Maintain/grow existing OEM business overall and in target
applications; shared goal with Account Managers (Sales Team)
- Responsible for all managerial duties associated with the
team
- Drives the team to achieve consistent growth in volume and
margin at key Automotive OEMs
- Works to develop and maintain higher level relationships at
OEMs and drives the team to achieve/maintain broad relationships at
OEMs
- Develops key goals/objectives for the team as well as shared
goals with the Account Managers in consultation with the Sales
Director, Transportation Segment. Reports out regularly on progress
on key metrics
- Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive
Automotive strategy for both PPC (Polypropylene Compounds) and EP
(Engineered Products)
- Supports product strategies for Olefins & Polyolefins (ie. PP,
Catalloy, etc.) as required at Automotive OEMs
- Focal point for Marketing Communications activities for the
Automotive market. This includes developing/implementing a
tradeshow and advertising strategy in conjunction with internal
Marketing Communications resources
- Drives the use of CRM systems to enter, manage and track all
potential new business opportunities for both existing material
solutions and new product developments
- Engages with the APS USCAN Regional Sales Director
(Transportation) to align on strategies and execution of overall
business objectives
- Helps develop and drive the overall sustainability strategy for
LYB in the automotive market. Is the focal point for automotive
sustainability market trends and drivers and works in conjunction
with other sustainability stakeholders (internal and external) to
ensure automotive market/OEM needs are understood and strategies
implemented to meet those needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, Scientific, Technical or Business
field is preferred
- Ten years or more of relevant professional experience in a
commercial or technical role (Sales, Marketing, Business
Development, Engineering, Product Management, etc..) within the
Automotive industry and minimum 5 years of direct managerial
experience leading a team.
- Ability to motivate and drive a team towards common goals.
- Experience with Compounded Engineering Resins is
preferred.
- Willingness to travel to meet with customers, innovation
centers, HQ, etc. as needs dictate.
- Basic computer and software skills including Microsoft Office
(i.e. Excel), Salesforce.com, etc.
- Strong communication skills, ability to interact across the
organization with a variety of functional groups
- Capability to manage activities across a matrix
organization.

making.
