Night Shift - 7p-7aPosition Summary The Registered Nurse
provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as
assigned, utilizing the nursing process. - Patient population
serviced includes both adolescents and adults. One year of
behavioral health experience preferred not required.Core

Responsibilities
- Utilizing the nursing process, the RN develops an initial
nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient.
- Competent in assessing, planning, and delivering care for
patients with co-occurring disorders.
- The nurse continually assesses and reassesses the patient's
medical and psychiatric status and changing needs.
- Participates with other team members in planning and
implementing the patient's treatment plan.
- Directs and participates with other personnel in maintaining a
safe and therapeutic milieu.
- Assists with discharge planning and works with patient's
discharge.
- Provides leadership to other personnel in crisis behavioral
management. Determines the need for the use of seclusion and/or
restraint with patients, assesses the patient's physical and
emotional status and determines the cessation of their use, when
appropriate,
- Provides medication administration, medication teaching
activities, assessment of medication side effects and medication
efficacy, and assists physicians in obtaining informed
consent.
- Maintains own professionalism and adheres to the determined
standards of care and performance.
- Accurately transcribes physician orders according to nursing
policy and procedure.
- Adheres to the Infection Control policies and procedures of the
hospital and follows - - - - - standard precautions at all
times.
- Assesses and reassesses patient's pain and provides nursing
care as needed.
- Attend Monthly Nursing Staff meetings or read minutes and sign
form of acknowledgement.
- Maintains and stays current with nursing standards of care and
nursing practices.
- 15. Demonstrates the ability to handle incoming crisis calls,
make referrals and complete assessments as - - - - - -
necessary.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain therapeutic relationships,
which do not allow self-disclosure of - - - - - personal/social
information to patients and adheres to the Professional Boundary
Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.Professional
Responsibilities
- TB Skin Test must be current in order to be scheduled for
work.
- CPR renewals must be renewed prior to expiration in order to be
scheduled for work.
- Delinquent medical records must be taken care of in a timely
manner.Charge Nurse Functions and Responsibilities (Assigned on an
as needed basis each shift)1. - - - - Provides overall leadership
for all unit nursing staff, for the shift.
- Triages admissions and coordinates discharges and admissions
with Intake Department.
- Is a resource to all departments of the hospital during the
shift.
- Provides leadership in emergencies and leads all codes for the
hospital.
- Oversees staffing for current shift and next shift.Safety
Responsibilities
- Report any/all safety concerns to Supervisor, Director of Risk
Management, Maintenance
- If injured, will complete with supervisor, an Employee Accident
Report and submit it to Human Resources Director.
- Will report accidents to the Human Resources Director by the
end of the shift or within 24 hours outlining the nature of the
injury.
- If injured, will abide by the Return to Work/Light Duty Program
guidelines.
- Will abide by the Hospital's Safety Policies.Minimum Skills,
Experience, Licensure, & Educational Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Basic understanding of psychiatric nursing theory and practice
with previous psychiatric clinical experience desired.
- Demonstrates clinical competency in providing general nursing
care.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan.
- CPR/Handle with Care certification.Physical Demands of the
Job1. - - - - Physically and mentally demanding with prolonged
extensive or considerable sitting, standing, and walking. - May
include turning and lifting patients.Working Conditions
- Assisting in physical management/crisis control.
- Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
- Must handle emergencies or crisis situations.
- Occasional pressure due to multiple call and inquiries.The
