Description: Positions Location: Lansing, MI Job Description General Purpose of Job: The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing services guided by the Transformational Model for the Professional Practice of Nursing. Accepts responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the implementation of the nursing care plan to maximize outcomes for patients of the Wound and Hyperbaric Clinic (W&HC). Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Performs nursing activities in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures, the guidelines of accrediting bodies (Joint Commission), the Michigan Public Health Code and the ANA Scope & Standards of Practice. Evaluates patient outcomes and response to care, revising plan as needed. Documents assessment, plan, all care given and patient's response in the patient's record. Meets documentation guidelines and electronic media usage requirements necessary for the provision of safe, quality patient care that assures optimal patient outcomes and operational effectiveness. Assists physicians in the development, recommendation and implementation of a wound treatment plan, in conjunction with the patient, family and health care team, which addresses all problems and needs related to desired wound outcomes as identified in the assessment. Develops and maintains an effective professional working relationship with all patients, families, physicans, and providers. Identifies potential adjunct wound patient problems based on comprehensive assessment of the medical condition, adjustment, support systems, behavior, cognition, function and abilities and access to community care resources (i.e. home care, physician office visits) to communicate barriers of and facilitate meeting of individualized wound treatment goals/outcomes. Keeps up to date on community resources. Advocates for the patient/family needs, including negotiation with internal/external resources for needed services. Provides or arranges education for patients, families, or other members of the health care team to enhance patient care or improve department outcomes and operations. Communicates appropriate information and changes in patient's condition to members of the health team, the patient and the patient's family. Responsible for administering hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy and diagnostic testing to patients of the W&HC, under the supervision of a hyperbaric physician. Demonstrates knowledge and use of unit-specific equipment and appropriate supplies used to deliver the highest quality patient care. Provides a safe environment for patient, family and all other caregivers. Supports the development of self and other associates and students through mentoring and peer review. Accountable for professional development and utilizes current evidence and research in practice. Delegates, directs and oversees implementation of care plan to LPN, MA or other health care workers Job Requirements General Requirements --- Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse licensure --- BLS within 60 days of hire. --- Nationally accredited wound care certification preferred Work Experience --- Minimum of one year medical surgical experience --- Wound care experience preferred --- Experience in an outpatient/clinic type setting preferred Education --- Graduate from an accredited BSN school of nursing --- Completion of an accredited Principles of Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine training course within 6 months of hire --- Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire. Specialized Knowledge and Skills --- Clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to deliver quality patient care. --- Interpersonal skills for effective communication. --- Computer and software literacy with ability to meet documentation timelines using electronic media --- Hyperbaric oxygen care experience preferred Sparrow Health System is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
