Summary Pratt & Whitneys Materials Control Laboratory is looking for a highly motivated individual to support the Composite Center of Excellence at our Lansing, Michigan site. This role is responsible for the preparation and evaluation of composite microscopic samples, along with various tests as outlined in the key responsibilities with the use of an Instron. A Mechanical Test and Metallography Laboratory Lead must not only be motivated, but also work well across teams, have a high attention to detail, and can effectively communicate both orally and written. This role is for 1st Shift position. Key responsibilities: Create standard work Method development Review work results/outcomes that have been performed by other technicians Prepare various samples for microscopy Microscopy for metallic and non-metallic samples Mechanical test: tensile, compression, and hardness Material qualification and requalification Basic Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Material Engineering or Chemical Engineering and 8+ years of experience supporting laboratory related activities and studies; OR Masters Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience U.S. citizenship required due to government contracts Preferred Qualifications: Aerospace lab experience running tests for engine turbofan components Ability to work in a diverse / high-impact group in high stress environments Good communication and organization skills Proficient with Microsoft software What is my role type? This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
