Job Description:
Position Summary:Responsible for supervising, coordinating, and
participating in the delivery of nursing care for all patient care
units following hospital policies and procedures, nursing process
guidelines, standards of care, and standards of practice. In
accordance with clinical standards and guidelines, coordinates the
placement of elective and emergent admissions and
transfers.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Ensures efficient administration of nursing services and
quality of care.
- Coordinates, with other health team members, patient placement
and delivery of patient care with final decision making
responsibility.
- Identifies and evaluates bed availability in patient care
departments by super census review and continuous rounding.
- Communicates and coordinates with the managers, coordinators,
contact nurses to insure that all shifts have standardized
admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
- Initiates new concepts, approaches, and procedures in the
placement of patients to facilitate their admission process.
- Conducts rounds on patients and families waiting for beds in ER
and PACU and communicates bed placement plan.
- Coordinates and facilitates morning report to Patient Care
Services Manager of Nursing Support or UR/Patient Placement
Coordinator.
- Initiates continuous communication with Scheduling Office
staff.
- Communicates with ER and PACU frequently to prevent a back up
of admissions and to put into place process that might stop a
backlog.
- Participates in the evaluation of the metrics and communicates
the information to the appropriate people.
- Acts as a resource person and provides support and direction to
patient care units. Participates in delivery of patient care.
- Provides input into personnel issues including hiring,
disciplining, appraising, and terminating employees.
- Seeks to improve quality of service by continuously developing
individual competencies within scope of practice.
- Serves as administrative representative in the absence of
administration.
- Coordinates weekend staffing for units.
- Performs other related responsibilities as
necessary.Qualifications:Required:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Three years of professional nursing experience providing broad
clinical exposure. Current State ofMichigan Registered
Nurselicense.
- BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through
the Military Training Network (MTN).Preferred:
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
- ACLS certification.
- Supervisory experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of Nursing Standards of Practice and
Standards of Patient Care.
- Thorough knowledge of hospital and departmental operations,
policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to evaluate individualized patient
care plans and standards of care for the patient population
served.
- Enhances individual professional growth and development through
evaluation of self and employee educational needs; participation in
educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and by
reading current literature concerning scope of practice.
- Demonstrates diverse clinical knowledge regarding patient care
needs.
- Understands and knows the scope of service of each patient care
unit.
- Maintains professional licensure, certifications, and clinical
competencies as required by hospital.
