Summary: -As a nursing assistant, provide support and assistance to facility while you attend class to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Perform housekeeping tasks, dietary, and limited supportive care for residents, including a variety of tasks, such as assisting residents with personal items, passing snacks, pouring beverages, cleaning and activities.
Essential Nursing Assistant Functions:
1. Keep residents' living areas pleasant and orderly, including straightening rooms and shower rooms, cleaning bedside stands and closets, making beds and changing linen.
2. Respond promptly to resident call lights and resident requests.
3. Passes meal trays and offers tray set-up.
4. Document food acceptance in POC.
5. The nursing assistant serves food and busses dishes in the dining room.
6. Pass snacks and ice water.
7. Observe and report resident conditions to appropriate staff.
8. Properly dispose of trash and/or soiled linen.
9. Attend all mandatory meetings and in-services.
10. Interact with peers, other staff members and residents in a courteous and professional manner.
11. Prioritize work assignments to ensure completion of resident activities.
12. Transports/escorts residents to areas within the facility, e.g. dining areas, activities, resident care conferences, etc.
13. Performs other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
1. Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members.
2. Ability to learn infection control techniques.
3. Ability to be patient and polite.
4. Must possess a supportive, cooperative, and caring demeanor.
5. Good listening skills.
6. Very good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with long term care, rehabilitation, and memory care residents.
7. Must have good organizational skills and be detail-oriented to complete tasks in a thorough manner.
8. Ability to critically assess a situation and utilize effective communication strategies, including chain of command and issue escalation
9. Computer skills necessary to perform assigned tasks.
10. Must have a High School Diploma or GED
