We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to create our next generation seals and gaskets for fuel cells to ensure the fuel cell stacks have best-in-class sealing. You will be responsible for developing the design of current and future seals, gaskets, and sub-gaskets along with resolving complex technical issues. You will need to have thorough knowledge, be creative, take initiative as well as use a high level of independent discernment with respect to the sealing methods, polymer chemistry and materials characterization in developing these sealing methods.Plan and guide specifications aimed at developing sealing methods and solutions for fuel cell plates and membrane electrode assemblies.Apply the chemistry to understand the interactions between the sealing materials and other cell components.Conduct seal load modelling or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for new seal designs.Generate new concepts / designs with understanding of many high volume production manufacturing process (e.g. molding, printing, curing of polymers).Work with CAD designers to guide the design of the hardware.Develop plans, design of experiments (DoE) and execute testing to verify the newly developed concepts. Conduct thorough statistical analyses of experimental results.Prepare written reports of test results and present results to broader team.Execute tests in accordance to GM procedures, ISO standards, SAE and ECE, Federal Register (CFR) procedures, and GMS principles.Quickly identify issues / problems and report to responsible personnel.Maintain a safe working environment.Additional Job DescriptionREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSBS in engineering either Chemical, Mechanical or Related engineering fields.2+ years experience in advanced engineering or research.Experience in developing design or products using CFD and FEA.Comfortable with setting up bench / component level testing to understand root cause of the issue.Proficiency in Microsoft Office a must; experienced using VBA/Python/Simulink strongly preferred.Must function well in a fast-paced, diverse engineering environment and be flexible and adaptive to unexpected technical issues and concerns.Basic understanding of PEM fuel cell technology.Hands-on, independent, self-motivated contributor with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on innovation.Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail.Communication: strong oral, written and presentation skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPhD in chemical, mechanical or related engineering.More than 3 years of experience in fuel cells seal or gasket development.More than 3 years of experience working in or directly with Manufacturing Engineering or Cost EstimationComfortable in dealing with undefined / under-defined problems and dealing with evolving goals and targets.Familiarity with GM Engineering Change and Design Release processes.Sound understanding of the design considerations driven by polymer, elastomer, and metal material properties.Knowledge about seals and sealing methods for low pressure gas systemsStatistics and design of experiment training and experience.Polymer / materials background specifically in developing accelerated tests.Experience with materials characterization and analysis.Benefits OverviewThe goal of the General Motors total rewards program is to support the health and well-being of you and your family.
